Homestyle: Journey Within

This simple family home sits on a semi-rural piece of land just outside Cambridge in the Waikato. The outside is a minimalist cabin silhouette clad in dark-stained cedar; the inside is clad completely in Larch. Photography by Larnie Nicolson

Tis a good week! It’s a Homestyle magazine week – with the new June/July issue hitting the shops.

The Homestyle team always curate the best variety, but this issue is even more a modern collage than usual:

There are tours of four New Zealand homes, plus two very inspiring international homes (Melbourne and Amsterdam), a number of features profiling up-and-coming NZ creatives, kitchen and bathroom moodboards to steal good ideas from, and – my fave, some of which is shown above – the most stunning laundries feature. Welcome to your 30’s, you have a favourite laundry aesthetic now. There’s also an Interiors feature on Samode Palace, thanks to editor Alice Lines’ recent journey to India. (I really enjoyed this story actually, more travel adventures please!)

Current Mood – Homestyle April/May

Photography Simon Wilson

anzThe latest Homestyle magazine is out on shelves this week, and as per, I have some sneaky page peeks to share. The above kitchen, belonging to a home in Point Wells, is the covergirl for this issue. Love the choice of tiles here, and that slim timber ledge.

Styling & Photography by Ange Dye

There’s also a visit to the home of NZ Interior Stylist Ange Dye. Consider this kitchen moment above your amuse-bouche.

One of my faves from this issue is the 50-square-metre studio apartment within a converted hall on Waiheke Island.
The classic New Zealand white weatherboard exterior hides a darker, New York loft-style aesthetic inside, with modern features like this bedroom above. To partition off this space, they used these glass doors that look to be black-steel-framed, but are actually a more affordable ‘cheat’s version’. (Will leave you to check out the issue for the details of that).

This family home in Westmere shows off its recent revamp by owner and Interior Designer Amy Gillespie.

Homestyle Editor Alice Lines and Citta’s Sam van Kan combine forces again like an interiors Captain Planet, sharing a bunch of practical ideas for styling the sleep space of your dream zzzz’s. PS: I love that soft grid-patterned duvet up there (it’s from Citta’s new AW19 collection).

Happy New Year Homestyle

Homestyle magazine’s Feb/March issue is out on shelves this week – let’s have a little look-see, shall we?
Look for this space above on the cover of this issue: belonging to US-based New Zealanders Karie Higgins (jewellery designer) and Lee Gibson (footwear designer for Nike), this is their relaxed river-front cabin in Oregon…

Comfortable, relatable, expressive rather than expensive – and oh how I love those dark, wide floorboards.

My other fave from this issue – this Tauranga new-build, belonging to Rachael Jefferies – who you should definitely follow on Instagram @the_rad_pad, because her pad is rad, and her hashtags are hilarious.

This latest issue of Homestyle also shows you through a number of other New Zealand homes, including a very cool, contemporary tiny house built in Napier, and a Waiheke Island dream home, and visits the studios of Twenty Seven Names, Meadowlark founder Claire Hammon, and artist Fleur Woods. Plus kids’ bedroom makeovers, styled features and all the yummy forward-thinking, design-lead lifestyle snacks you expect to be served by Alice Lines and the Homestyle team.
