Current fave colour from Aalto Paint – Descent. A moody greyed-out green, it’s a hue with in-built heritage, but looks equally at home in a contemporary aesthetic. It brings an untamed elegance and elevated restfulness to a space, and is the perfect backdrop for art.
With that depth and drama on the walls, I’d design the rest of the room as a counterpoise – using light, soft layers. The aesthetic is Boho, but on a Coromandel summer tip. It’s all about balance: soft textures, but simple, sharp silhouettes. Crisp clean whites (Descent loves a crisp white), but muted a little through the use of linen, timber, and other natural materials.
I’d also paint Aalto Descent in a hallway, to create a create a deeply dramatic entrance to a home. And it would be restful and grounding in a sleep space – a moody master, or a sophisticated nursery.
