The New X Aalto Paint M O O D – Coastal Contemporary Bathroom

With summer on the way, I’m daydreaming about re-doing our bathroom in a contemporary coastal style. A little boho, and a little beachy, with lots of natural, handmade materials including jute, timber, linen, ceramics. Plants are also a must, and I’d choose tropical babes like a Bird of Paradise or a palm (pictured).

The ideal paint colour for this natural, coastal look is a sand shade, and Aalto Paint’s Scrubbed Pine – from their 2018 Paint Collection – is perfect. It’s just deep enough to give the room dimension, has a sophisticated edge to it, and lets the softer colours in the space pop against it.

I also really love that second lighter colour (bottom of image) as a fresher, cleaner alternative – Aalto Paint’s Endless.
Aalto have a seriously decent selection of new neutrals (more than you could count on two hands), and other faves of mine are Certain, a classic warm-toned neutral that sits halfway in depth between the Scrubbed Pine and Endless shown above, and Illusion 1/4 which is a very light sand with a super super subtle pink undertone.

Tapware with a Champagne finish would be the perfect choice against any of the Aalto Paint taupes and sandy shades  – it’s a finish that’s sophisticated but still soft, and reminds me a little of a low tide line shimmering in the sunlight. The Champagne bath spout, cross faucets and towel rail above (there’s also showerheads, shower grates and more) are all by Meir, available in NZ through The Kitchen Hub. I’d put a white free-standing bath in this space, with one of these elegant free-standing bath spouts as a statement piece.

Beside that bath I’d put a natural timber side table – handy also as a bathroom stool.
I can’t go past the classic eggcup stool by Mark Tuckey.

Towels would have to be The Beach People’s stonewashed bath sheets (and matching face cloths and hand towels). I love this Clay colour, but their Ash colour would look great here too.

On the floor, I’d put a Bhola Jute Runner (longer, narrower shape) from The Dharma Door.

Seafarers Baskets by The Dharma Door would have to be included as good-looking storage.

These slender rectangle tiles from Di Lorenzo are the perfect shade, and have a lovely softly-speckled finish.
